Typing Plants to Supports

When tying a plant to a support like a cage or trellis, what is the best way to do this without damaging the plant?
It is important that you use the proper material and method when tying plant vines. Otherwise, the ties could dig into the growing plant and cause damage. Because of this, you should use a material that is somewhat stretchy or soft. Garden twine, soft cloth strips, or even hosiery can all work well for this task. You can even find garden ties made of velcro, soft wire, and other materials. Tie the plant loosely to the support instead of making a tight knot–this will give the plant some room to grow.
